Blue and Gold Banquet Information
Theme is Patriotic/Red, White, and Blue. Main course will be fried chicken. If you plan to
attend the banquet, PLEASE EMAIL JOHN WITH THAT
INFORMATION. We need to know how many from each family will be in attendance. The cost
will be approximately $6.00 per person (as in the past). Also, watch for Callingpost and
email information on cost of tickets.
Each den will be providing a number of prizes that will be raffled
off at the Blue and Gold Banquet. In the past, each den has put together a basket and the
entire basket was raffled off. This year, we will be
raffling one or two items at a time, in order to extend the fun and provide more
opportunities for more kids to win something. The themes to choose from are: Camping,
Movie Night, Family Game Night and Sports. Typically, each individual family may
choose any category above and donate an item or two. (We are not assigning themes per
den.) If you are not able to donate an item, you may donate money and an item will be
purchased (by the Blue and Gold Committee) and added to the raffle.
Please contact John by email or phone if you have any questions. 770-924-7348 home or
770-655-7046 cell.
Readyman WAP
We have a Pack 412 Readyman WAP scheduled for Friday evening, February 15th, from 7 - 9
p.m. Joe Sanders will be conducting the WAP. He is an Army Medic, and well prepared for
conducting a Readyman WAP. Please check your calendars and, if you believe you'll be
attending this WAP, send me a quick email to let me know, so additional preparations can
be made. We hope you can attend and get this all-important Readyman Activity Badge
earned (it is required for the Arrow of Light Award). Additional information will be
forwarded to you in the future, such as exact location for the WAP (at Summit, but not
sure which room yet), any costs involved, etc. This is for Webelos only.
Engineering WAP
Please see below information regarding the Engineering WAP at Lockheed Martin. It takes
place on February 23rd, and we would like to be registered ASAP. Please look at your
calendars and email John if you want your Webelos
to attend. Note the cost is $10.00 per scout. This is for Webelos only.
Great American Clean-Up
Pack 412 has adopted Moon Station Lane. There will be six opportunities each year for us
to clean up Moon Station Lane. The maximum number of people we can have
participating at each cleanup is 25. Look for upcoming announcements on the next
clean-up!
John's Jargon(A message from our Cubmaster, John Head)
We are off to a great start this year with our popcorn sales, den meetings, the Braves
game, and the Allatoona Clean-up/campout. At the clean-up, we picked up a fair amount of
trash, and even found a wheelchair in Lake Allatoona. You never know what
treasures you will discover when you start gathering trash!
At the Braves game, we had a blast walking around the warning track at Turner Field
with hundreds of other scouts. The Braves won the game, too, just for us! Thanks to all
our leaders and volunteers who make these events a success and fun for the boys. I also
thank God for each and every family in this pack and the opportunity to work with your
boys. Our leaders will strive to live by the Cub Scout motto Do your Best in
all of our meetings and activities.
Our November Pack meeting is highlighted with a flag retirement ceremony outside. It is
a very touching ceremony that will make you proud to be an American and appreciative of
our military men and women who serve, and those who have given their lives for our
freedom. We hope youll be able to be here for this special ceremony. I will be
highlighting one of the twelve points of the Scout Law in the newsletter. The principles
outline one of Scoutings main purposes to teach the boys these values and
demonstrate them in our everyday lives.
The twelve points of the Scout Law are character traits based on the Word of God and
are found in the pages of the Holy Scriptures. A Scout is Brave. A Scout can face
danger even if he is afraid. He has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even
if others laugh at him or threaten him. You don't have to fight to be brave. Millions of
good, fine, decent folk show more bravery than heavyweight champs just by getting out of
bed every morning, going out to do a good day's work and living the best life they know
how against the law of odds. Keep the word handy every day of your life. Psalm 27:14 tells
us Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart: wait, I
say, on the LORD. Joshua 1:6 also tells us be strong and brave.
This year I will also highlight the twelve core values of Cub Scouting: This month is
Cooperation: Being helpful and working together with others toward a common goal.
Thank you for the honor to serve as your Cubmaster, Mr. John
Why Join Scouting? (borrowed from Pack 405 in Powder Springs, GA)
In 1930, the Boy Scouts of America created a new opportunity called Cub Scouting for boys
younger than Boy Scout age. A year-round, home-centered program used by chartered
organizations, Cub Scouting emphasizes involvement between boys and their parents, adult
leaders, and friends. In the multidimensional plan of the Boy Scouts of America, Cub
Scouting is where it all begins.
Cub Scouting has the following purposes:
Influences a boy's character development and spiritual growth.
Develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship.
Encourage sportsmanship and pride. Grow strong in mind and body.
Improve understanding within the family.
Strengthen a boy's ability to get along with others.
Foster personal achievement. Develop new interests and skills.
